Error: unable to load preferences, aborting program

A user of Cone Layout version 2.0.1 reported the program failed to start and showed the following error message:

"Unable to load preferences, aborting program."

To be investigated

We were unable to reproduce this bug on several of our test machines. This bug is closed until another user reports the same problem.
